THERE'S ALWAYS TOMORROW

This past Thursday I woke up with a start at 3:30 in the morning. It was the strangest thing. As I bolted up, the song “It’s Only Tomorrow” from Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer was playing in my head.

The song just stayed with me. I couldn’t go back to sleep.

Instead of fighting it, I started the think about the song. All I could remember of the lyrics were “There’s always tomorrow for dreams to come true…”

Now I’m fully awake and I headed to my computer. I was on a mission to know all the lyrics to the song. I found the lyrics and a smile came on my face. It’s all about believing in your dreams.

Of course, finding the lyrics was not enough. I went on YouTube and looked it up. I needed to listen to the song. I did. I listened to it about five times.

I started to cry. Here I am, an adult woman, crying at 3:30 in the morning to a song from a children’s Christmas movie. How ridiculous is that?

Through the tears, two verses really got to me:

DREAMS DON’T JUST HAPPEN

I’ve always been a planner. Develop a plan. Work the plan. Results. Move on! This was burned into me through all my years in corporate marketing. After 22 years, this is part of my DNA.

I had to learn it doesn’t work this way when going after one’s dreams.

I was always passionate about the products I worked on and the marketing plans I developed to bring those products to the marketplace. I would fight for my point of view. Many times, I had to compromise my position. After all, I was part of a team and I had superiors.

Dreams are different. DREAMS ARE PERSONAL! THE PASSION IS MORE INTENSE, and WE MUST OFTEN STAND ALONE!

Having a dream is like being a dog with a bone. They don’t let go no matter how big it is!

Dreams take vision. Dreams take work. Dreams take persistence. Dreams take time!

WILL TOMORROW EVER COME

Going after one’s dreams is not a sprint. It’s a marathon.

Sometimes it seems like dreams will never happen. It can be frustrating. It can be scary. Doubts can creep in and thoughts of giving up loom large.

I’ve cried myself to sleep many nights thinking it’s time to give up. Oftentimes, I felt I’ve invested so much time and energy and I’m not seeing any results. I’m just kidding myself.

Then, something amazing always happens. I realize that giving up is not an option. My dream is burned within me and giving up would crush my spirit. MY DREAM IS ME and I AM MY DREAM!

I have fought to get where I am. I have sacrificed my financial future and left family and friends behind to go after my dream. I may not be where I thought I would be, BUT…THERE’S ALWAYS TOMORROW!

TOMORROW BECOMES TODAY

It is such an amazing feeling when what we have been believing for happens and TOMORROW BECOMES TODAY!

I’ve often heard that when a mother holds her newborn baby for the first time she forgets all the pain it to took to give her child life.

Our dreams are no different. Through all the labor and the pain, we can look upon what we’ve birthed and know it was all worth it.

It shouldn’t stop there. As with children, dreams, once born, need to be nurtured and continue to grow. We should never stop dreaming.

It often starts with a small step. Then, the sky is the limit.

One of the greatest dreamers the world has ever known is Walt Disney. When his tomorrow became today, his dream just kept growing. He went from creating a mouse to creating the happiest place on earth.

It takes courage to take that first step toward your dream!

See your tomorrow. Always remember… it’s never too late to go after your dreams!
